Breaking News: Floyd Resigns

Tim Floyd (right), coach for the USC men's basketball team, resigned from his position today, according to ESPN. Floyd became embroiled in a long and tumultuous controversy involving the signing of O.J. Mayo (left). He was accused of paying a man close to Mayo to persuade him into joining Southern California, a major violation of NCAA rules. Floyd led the Trojans to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and just last season led the team to the Pac-10 Championship.

Lakers Return to Winning Ways

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 92-75, their 64th win of the season. Memphis could not outscore the Lakers in all four quarters, shooting just .366 from the field. LA forced 17 turnovers, and had more rebounds, assists, and steals. The Lakers spread the wealth throughout the bench, who scored 30 points. Andrew Bynum led the way with 18 points, and Pau Gasol had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kobe Bryant added 16 points, and Trevor Ariza had 12. Former-Trojan O.J. Mayo led the Grizzlies with 20 points, and Pau's younger brother Marc had 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Clippers Fall in Third

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 118-95, their 47th loss of the season. LA was without Zach Randolph and Eric Gordon again, and were out-scored 66-42 in the second half. Memphis shot .561 from the field, and 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. The Gizzlies scored 33 points off turnovers. Al Thornton scored 25 points to lead the Clips, and Baron Davis had 16 points and 7 assists. Mike Taylor had 15 points off the bench. For Memphis, Rudy Gay had 35 points and 8 rebounds, and Marc Gasol had a near-triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. USC-alumni O.J. Mayo finished with 18 points.

Lakers End Grizzly Streak

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 99-89, snapping their two-game losing streak. LA blocked 13 of Memphis's shots, and only turned the ball over 10 times. The Grizzlies had only 3 steals and committed 19 turnovers, but were 7-for-14 from three-point range. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, and Pay Gasol had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Lamar Odom made up for his 2 points with 13 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 blocked shots. All five of Memphis's starters scored in double-figures, with O.J. Mayo to lead the way with 17. Pau's brother Marc Gasol also had 17 points to go with 14 rebounds.

Lakers' Win Has Grizzly Consequences

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 115-98, but the victory was tempered by Andrew Bynum's knee injury in the first quarter. As Kobe Bryant drove to the basket to take his shot, he fell back and landed on Bynum's knee. X-rays were negative, and Bynum will undergo an MRI when the team arrives in New York to play the Knicks. The Lakers had to get through the game without their star center, but for the first half it seemed like they could not focus. LA allowed 61 points in the first half, at one point trailing by 13 before the Lakers could cut the deficit down to 6 by halftime. However, LA came out of shock, and outscored Memphis 60-37 in the second half. The Lakers had a .537 shooting percentage, forced 22 Memphis turnovers, and scored 66 points in the paint. Kobe Bryant led all players with 25 points and 7 assists, and Pau Gasol returned to his former home to score 24 points and grab a game-high 8 rebounds against his brother, Marc Gasol. Derek Fisher had 14 points, and Lamar Odom used extra playing time off the bench to add 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Trevor Ariza scored 11 points and snagged 5 rebounds. For the Grizzlies, Rudy Gay led with 23 points, and former-USC star O.J. Mayo had 21 points and 5 rebounds. Memphis's three other starters all scored double-figures, including Marc Gasol with 13 points.

Lakers Wake Up for Memphis

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 105-96, ending their two-game losing streak. LA had to rally in the fourth quarter after trailing by 8 at halftime. The Lakers shot 54% from inside the arc and were 6 for 15 from the 3-point line, while Memphis was 9-for-21 for 3-pointers. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 36 points, and Pau Gasol enjoyed his return to the team that traded him to LA with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Former USC-star O.J. Mayo scored 22 points and 6 assists for the Grizzlies, and Rudy Gay led Memphis with 23 points.

Clippers Can't Get Past Grizzlies

The Los Angeles Clippers were defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies 93-81, dropping their third in a row. Rudy Gay led Memphis with 25 points, and USC product O.J. Mayo had 20 points with 2 steals. Baron Davis had 23 points with 8 assists, and Zach Randolph provided 21 points and 2 blocked shots. Marcus Camby had a spectacular game, providing 15 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocked shots.
