Clips' Deal Randolph

The Los Angeles Clippers finalized their trade for Quentin Richardson from Memphis in exchange for Zach Randolph. The deal was struck early in the off-season, but the two teams made the transaction official today.

Clippers Sign Griffin

The Los Angeles Clippers signed Blake Griffin to a three-year contract with a team-option for the fourth year, though the figures of the deal were not revealed. The Clippers will also be able to make a qualifying offer after the contract expires.

The team has not yet finalized the trade of Zach Randolph with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Quentin Richardson.

The Clippers have made a qualifying offer to Steve Novak.

Clips Trade Randolph for Richardson

The Los Angeles Clippers traded Zach Randolph to the Memphis Grizzlies, receiving in exchange Quentin Richardson (above). Randolph, who was acquired midseason from New York, became expendable after the team drafted Blake Griffin. Richardson played four seasons with the Clippers, after which he signed with Phoenix who then went on to trade him to New York. The Knicks then traded him to Memphis just last week on Draft Day for Darko Milicic. The deal also frees the Clippers of Randolph's $33 million contract. The trade cannot be finalized until next week.

Editor's Note: Can Griffin be Clips' Savior?

Yes, he can. Blake Griffin is an incredibly talented power-foward, and will most likely be a positive influence on the team's morale itself. It's not like he has no supporting cast. Eric Gordon had a standout rookie year, and Baron Davis is always an advantage. Zach Randolph and Marcus Camby are solid big-men; Randolph can score and Camby can rebound. The team looks more solid than it ever has in the past. While playoffs are not in the near future, the Clippers are sure to make this a memorable season.

Editor's Note: Too Many Options for Clips

Along with the first overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Clippers have a lot to think about regarding their front-court. The Clips will almost certainly pick Blake Griffin of Oklahoma, but that won't stop their wheeling-and-dealing. Griffin's arrival creates an over-abundance of big-men, with Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman, and Zach Randolph. The most obvious option for LA is to trade, but who they trade is up for grabs. Camby is on the last year of his contract, which expires at the end of the 2010 season. Chris Kaman is young, and could yield a lot of interest from teams in the market for a center. And Zach Randolph had a standout year, but a hefty contract might prove to be immovable. The best bet would have to be trading Camby. He came to LA very angry after being blindsided by Denver trading him. He never truly embraced being a Clipper, and with the end of his contract coming, he could be traded to a team like Detroit or Chicago that lacks a standout power-forward or center in exchange for a solid guard and a few draft picks in the future. While Griffin's fate is already sealed, three other Clippers find their future up in the air.

Clips Can't Reach 20-Win Plateau

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Portland Trail Blazers 87-72, dropping their record to 19-61. The Clips shot just 38% from the field, and 2-for-15 from three-point range. Portland took 27 free-throws, compared to 11 for LA. Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 18 points, and Zach Randolph returned from his suspension to score 13. Baron Davis had 12, and no other Clippers scored in double-figures. LaMarcus Aldridge led the Blazers with 21 points, and Brandon Roy added 15.

Clippers Lose To Fourth-Quarter Doldrums

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 87-77, their 60th loss of the season. The Clips shot just .358 from the field, taking 31 3-point tries while only hitting 9 of them. LA had only 6 turnovers, and Minnesota out-rebounded the Clippers 62-34. Entering the fourth quarter trailing only by 11 points, the Clippers scored just 15 points while the Wolves had 14. Eric Gordon led the Clips with 28 points, and Brian Skinner had 16 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. Ryan Gomes led the way for the T-Wolves with 24 points and 13 rebounds, and former Bruin Kevin Love added 13 points and 15 rebounds. LA was without Mardy Collins, Marcus Camby, Ricky Davis, and Al Thornton due to health issues, and Zach Randolph due to his suspension.

Randolph is Arrested

Clipper center Zach Randolph was arrested yesterday on suspicion of DUI. The Clippers suspended him for their next two games. Randolph was pulled over in the Culver City area early Monday morning after the team's loss to the Lakers. Officers smelled alcohol on Randolph and arrested him after he failed a field sobriety test. Randolph has been arrested twice before, once for a DWI involving marijuana and another for street racing.

Lakers Edge Out Clips

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated their cross-arena rival Los Angeles Clippers 89-85, their 61st victory of the season, and the 59th loss for the Clippers. The Lakers scored just 33 points in the second-half, allowing the Clips to re-enter the game late in the fourth quarter, but the Clippers scored just 29 points in the first and third quarters combined. The Clippers out-rebounded the Lakers 46-38, and out-assisted them 21-15. However, the Clips committed 15 turnovers as opposed to the Lakers' 10. Eric Gordon led all scorers with 24 points for the Clippers, and Zach Randolph had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lamar Odom led the Lakers with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Kobe Bryant added 18 points as well.

Clippers Feel Rocky-Mountain Low

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Denver Nuggets 120-102, their 58th loss of the season. Denver had a .531 shooting percentage, along with 11-for-22 shooting from 3-point range. The Clips were missing Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, Mardy Collins, Ricky Davis, and Al Thornton to different injuries. The Nuggets scored at least 30 points in the first three quarters. Zach Randolph led the shorthanded LA with 22 points and 12 rebounds. DeAndre Jordan came off the bench to score 21 points and grab 8 rebounds. J.R. Smith led Denver with 34 points off the bench, and Carmelo Anthony added 18.

Clippers Get Stung

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the New Orleans Hornets 104-98, their 57th loss of the season. The Clips could not hold a fourth-quarter lead as New Orleans shot .531 from the field. LA had shot 50% but committed 24 turnovers that resulted in 28 points. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 30 points and 14 assists, and David West added 19 points. Eric Gordon led the Clippers wit 25 points, and Zach Randolph had 24 with 14 rebounds.

Short-Handed Clips Can't Handle Rockets

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Houston Rockets 110-93, their 56th loss of the season. The Clippers were without Baron Davis or Marcus Camby, both dealing with health problems. Houston had a .524 shooting percentage, and out-rebounded LA 44-32. The Clips had only 8 turnovers, but went 4-for-12 from 3-point range. Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 17 points, and Chirs Kaman had 16. Zach Randolph and Al Thornton both scored 12, and Mike Taylor had 11 with 6 assists. Yao Ming led the Rockets with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Clips No Match for Healthy Spurs

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the San Antonio Spurs 111-98, their 55th loss of the season. LA could not handle San Antonio's full lineup, including the long-awaited return of Manu Ginobili. The Clips shot .513 from the field, but the Spurs shot .561. San Antonio committed only five turnovers. Mike Taylor started for Baron Davis who was out with the flu, and led the Clippers with 23 points. Marcus Camby sprained his ankle in the first quarter, and is expected to miss one to two weeks. Eric Gordon had 18 points, and Zach Randolph and Al Thornton both added 16. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 18 points, and Ginobili had 14 with 7 assists. Tim Duncan added 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Clippers Win in Knick of Time

The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the New York Knicks 140-135 in overtime, their 18th victory of the season. New York held a 19-point lead early in the first quarter, but lost nearly all of it heading into halftime, leading only by one. The Clips scored at least 30 points in each quarter after the first, and had a .577 shooting percentage through the entire game, including 10-for-19 from 3-point range. Mike Taylor had his best game of the season for LA, scoring 35 points off the bench, and Zach Randolph had 33 points against his former team. Al Thornton had 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Eric Gordon added 19 points. Baron Davis had 13 points and 6 assists. Al Harrington led the Knicks with 38 points, and Wilson Chandler added 22.

Clippers Unable to Repeat Upset

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Boston Celtics 90-77, their 54th loss of the season. The Clips could not hold on and take the lead as the entered the second half trailing only by two. LA held Boston to just 13 points in the second quarter, but scored only 18 in the first and third and 17 in the fourth. Boston grabbed the win thanks in part to their 7-for-11 shooting from three-point range. Zach Randolph led the Clippers with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Baron Davis had 13 points and 8 assists. Al Thornton scored 11 points off the bench. Ray Allen led the Celtics with 20 points, and Rajon Rondo had 14 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals.

Clippers Continue to Plummet

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Toronto Raptors 100-76, their 53rd loss of the season. The Clippers shot just .387 from the field, going 29-for-75. Toronto took 100 shots, and out-rebounded LA 57-34, including 12 offensive rebounds as opposed to the Clips' 2. Zach Randolph led the Clippers with 20 points and 7 rebounds, and Steve Novak scored 11 points off the bench. Chris Bosh had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors, and Anthony Parker had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and two blocked shots.

Clippers Look Less Than Golden

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Golden State Warriors 127-120, their 51st loss of the season. The Clips shot just .412 from the field, and had 20 offensive rebounds. G.S. had a .536 shooting percentage, including 7-for-14 from beyond the arc. Baron Davis had 29 points against his former team, and Al Thornton scored 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Zach Randolph had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 29 points, and former-Clipper Corey Maggette added 21.

Clippers Can't Keep Up with Cavs

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers 87-83, their 49th loss of the season. LA had a 19 point lead at one point in the third quarter, but lost in the fourth 35-14. The Clips held Cleveland under 20 points in each of the first three quarters, and to 39% shooting in the entire game. Chris Kaman made his return after missing 48 games with an injury to his left foot. Zach Randolph and Al Thornton led the Clips with 20 points each, 9 rebounds for Thornton and 12 for Randolph. Eric Gordon added 14 points. LeBron James had his second straight triple with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, and Mo Williams hit a game-winning 3-pointer with just 6.6 seconds left in the game.

Clippers Can't Keep Pace

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Indiana Pacers 106-105, their 48th loss of the season. Eric Gordon and Zach Randolph both returned to the court after missing a few days, but Marcus Camby, Baron Davis, and Ricky Davis could not play. LA had a 13 point lead after halftime, but lost in the second half 55-41. The Pacers had only 9 turnovers, and the Clips shot .494 from the field. Gordon had 35 points to lead the Clippers, and Al Thornton had 22 points and 9 rebounds. Randolph finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Jarrett Jack led Indiana with 25 points, and Troy Murphy added 22 points and 15 rebounds.

The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 118-95, their 47th loss of the season. LA was without Zach Randolph and Eric Gordon again, and were out-scored 66-42 in the second half. Memphis shot .561 from the field, and 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. The Gizzlies scored 33 points off turnovers. Al Thornton scored 25 points to lead the Clips, and Baron Davis had 16 points and 7 assists. Mike Taylor had 15 points off the bench. For Memphis, Rudy Gay had 35 points and 8 rebounds, and Marc Gasol had a near-triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. USC-alumni O.J. Mayo finished with 18 points.
