Dodgers Lose Out on Lee

If the Dodgers make a trade for a starting pitcher before the trade deadline, it won't be for Cliff Lee. The Cleveland Indians sent Lee along with Ben Francisco to Philadelphia for four prospects. The Dodgers now must look at Jarrod Washburn, or if the market has softened, Roy Halladay.

Halladay-Deal Hopes Begin to Dwindle

The Los Angeles Dodgers are becoming less and less likely to land Toronto-ace Roy Halladay, according to Sports Illustrated. Talks between the Blue Jays and Philadelphia have increased, and with the Phillies willing to part with their top prospects, the Dodgers are at a marked disadvantage. LA has been scouting Cleveland's Cliff Lee, as well as many relievers such as George Sherrill, Matt Capps, John Grabow, and Jason Frasor.

UPDATE: Nevermind. According to ESPN, the Phillies are balking at the Blue Jays' asking price, and refuse to meet their demands.

Phils Batter Dodgers for Split

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2, ending the 4-game series in a split. The Dodgers did not get any help from Randy Wolf, who gave up six runs in less than seven innings of work. The Phillies used LA pitching for batting-practice, as Shane Victorino, Ryan Howard, and Carlos Ruiz each had a homer for Philadelphia. Juan Pierre had two hits, including a double, and Matt Kemp had an RBI. Casey Blake doubled and scored a run, and Ethier crossed home-plate as well.

Eric Milton was placed on the 15-day disabled list for tightness in his back. The Dodgers recalled Blake DeWitt to take his place on the roster. Milton was 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA. A fifth starter will not be needed due to three off-days until June 20 against the Angels. However, by that time Eric Stults is expected to be ready to come off the disabled list. The extra bench-player will help as the Dodgers enter interleague play, and travel to Texas and Chicago to play the Rangers and the White Sox with the designated-hitter rule.

Ethier Repeats in Dodgers' Victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in 12 innings, their fourth win in five games. The Dodgers won in the bottom of the twelfth after Andre Ethier hit a solo-homer with two outs, his second walk-off hit in as many games. It was also Ethier's second home run of the day. Hiroki Kuroda had six shutout innings, but Ronald Belisario could not preserve the lead, giving up two runs in the seventh that led the Phillies take the lead. However, in the bottom of the ninth Rafael Furcal hit a pinch-hit homer to tie the game and send it into extra-innings. James Loney had three hits, and Juan Castro had two. Matt Stairs hit a two-run single that gave the Phils their short lead, and Pedro Feliz had two hits and scored a run.

Ninth Inning Rally Spells Victory for Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3, their third win in four games. The Dodgers won in the bottom of the ninth after Brad Lidge got two outs with the Phillies up by one, leaving the Dodgers with their final out. Casey Blake subsequently singled, James Loney walked, and Russell Martin reached first on a fielding error by Pedro Feliz. Andre Ethier immediately doubled on the first pitch, sending Blake and Loney home to win the game. Juan Pierre and Rafael Furcal both scored, and Loney had an RBI. Jonathan Broxton struck out the side in the ninth to get his sixth win of the season. Chase Utley had a two-run double for the Phils, and Jayson Werth reached base four times and scored a run.

Dodgers Go Silent in Loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0, their fourth loss in seven games. The Dodgers could not get the bats going, collecting only five hits in the entire game. Cole Hamels pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out five without walking anybody. Andre Ethier doubled but could not be picked up. Jayson Werth had two hits, and RBI, and a run scored for the Phillies, and Carlos Ruiz had two singles and scored as well. Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez both drove in runs.

Dodgers Pull One Out in Matinee

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in 10 innings, taking the series 2-1. The Dodgers had a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but Jonathan Broxton gave up a game-tying double to Carlos Ruiz with two outs. However, Andre Ethier walked with two out in the top of the tenth, and Russell Martin doubled, James Loney walked, and Matt Kemp doubled to put LA up by two. Chad Billingsley was sharp despite not getting the win, allowing only one run on three hits and nine strikeouts. Ramon Troncoso had his second save of the season. Martin finished with three hits, Kemp had a triple and finished just a homer short of the cycle, and Loney had his second home run in as many days. Xavier Paul doubled, the first extra-base hit of his career, and Casey Blake added a single, double, RBI, and run scored. Raul Ibanez had two hits and scored a run for the Phillies, and Jimmy Rollins had a double.

The Dodgers optioned James McDonald to the minors, and called up veteran Eric Milton to replace him. Milton will start Saturday against the Marlins instead of Jeff Weaver. McDonald struggled in his rookie season, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA.

Dodgers Blow Past Phils

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2, snapping a two-game losing streak. LA put the hurt on Jamie Moyer, tagging him for seven runs in less than five innings of work. Randy Wolf was solid against his former team, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out 8 in six innings. James Loney had his first homer of the season, a three-run dinger, and Casey Blake had a two-run blast, his seventh home run. Loney finished with 5 RBI, and Blake finished with 3. Juan Pierre had a single, double, and two steals, and Orlando Hudson doubled twice and scored a run. Russell Martin and Matt Kemp both scored twice. Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez both had solo-homers for the Phillies.

Joe Torre was chosen by Philly's manager Charlie Manuel to be part of his coaching staff in the 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis. Torre played for the Cardinals during his professional career, and also managed them for six seasons before he joined the Yankees.

Lakers get 86-ed by 76ers

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 94-93, only their 14th loss of the season. After Kobe Bryant hit a 23-foot jumper with six seconds left to put the Lakers up by two in the fourth quarter, Andre Iguodala hit a three-pointer as time expired to get the win for Philly. The Sixers outscored LA 32-20 in the deciding fourth quarter after the Lakers entered the fourth leading by 11. Despite shooting 50%, the Lakers committed 18 turnovers, allowed four 3-pointers in the last quarter, and only forced 9 Philly turnovers. Kobe had a cold game, scoring only 11 points on 5-for-15 shooting. Pau Gasol led LA with 25 points, and Trevor Ariza had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Iguodala led the Sixers with 25 points, and Louis Williams scored 18 points off the bench.

Philly Shuts Out Kings

The Los Angeles Kings fell to the Philadelphia Flyers 2-0, keeping LA 4 points out of a playoff spot. Martin Biron had his 25th career shutout, and Simon Gagne scored his 23rd goal of the season, an empty-netter with one second left in the game. Erik Ersberg made 18 saves for the Kings, and failed to get his first win since December 13.

Kings Fly By Philadelphia

The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in a shootout, returning to .500. Goalie Jonathan Quick stopped 31 of 32 shots in his first overtime game and shootout of his career. Quick also did not allow any SO goals. Dustin Brown and Patrick O'Sullivan scored shootout goals to give the Kings the win after Wayne Simmonds scored a power-play goal to tie the game in the second period. Scott Hartnell scored a goal in the second period to give the Flyers a brief 1-0 lead.

Clips Lose to Brand-less Philly

The Los Angeles Clippers were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers 100-92, their 23rd loss of the season and fifth in a row. Philly was without ex-Clipper star Elton Brand, who has a dislocated shoulder. The Clips had a meek .405 shooting percentage, and committed 18 turnovers which resulted in 25 points. Al Thornton led LA with 24 points, along with 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Eric Gordon added 21 points, and Marcus Camby scored 16 with 17 rebounds. Andre Iguodala had 28 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the 76ers.

Lakers Hit Rebound Against Sixers

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Philidelphia 76ers 114-102 after having lost to Indiana the night before. LA shot .581 from inside the arch, and had 7 steals. Kobe Bryant had 33 impresive points in his homecoming, and Pau Gasol had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Vladimir Radmanovic had 11 points in the first half. Andre Miller led Philly with 26 points and 5 assists.

Clippers Lose to Brand-New Elton

The Los Angeles Clippers were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers 89-88 to drop to 2-10. LA had a six-point lead with 2:50 left, but former Clipper star Elton Brand did his old team in with a 15-footer with 57 seconds left, which ended up becoming the game winner. Brand's departure is still seen as a shock to some, who left LA immediately after they signed his friend, Baron Davis. Al Thornton led the Clips with 22 points, and Davis added 18. Brand finished with 17 points for Philly.
