Series Recap: Kuroda Feelin' Fine

The series against Arizona took a gruesome turn when Hiroki Kuroda was struck in the head by a line-drive. Medical analysis shows he will make a full recovery, and could begin pitching very soon this season. His Thursday start is doubtful.

SAT - The injury to Kuroda set the stage for a heart-wrenching 4-3 loss, where Jonathan Broxton gave up back-to-back home runs to Mark Reynolds and Miguel Montero to tie the game. Ramon Troncoso continued to struggle, giving up a hit and two walks before allowing a deep single to center to drive in the winning run.

SUN - The Dodgers managed to salvage their series with the D-Backs with a 9-3 blowout. Randy Wolf cruised through seven innings before hitting trouble in the eighth, and even contributed with the bat, falling a triple short of the cycle. Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer before the first out of the game could be recorded, and Orlando Hudson drove in two runs with his own home run.

Bullpen Falters in Loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Florida Marlins 6-3, snapping a five-game winning streak. The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the six, but with two out, the bullpen gave up a single, walk and single that gave Florida the lead for good. They would then score two more insurence runs in the eighth off Ramon Troncoso. Andre Ethier doubled twice and drove in two runs, and Casey Blake tripled and scored a run. Emilio Bonifacio had two hits and two runs scored for the Fish, and Hanley Ramirez scored a run. Chris Coghlan had a home run.

Dodgers Finish Half on Right Note

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4, taking the series 2-1. The Dodgers had the early advantage, scoring twice in the first inning. Clayton Kershaw was solid, giving up only one run on two hits and five walks over six-plus innings of work. Ramon Troncoso notched the save with a scoreless ninth. Brad Ausmus connected for his first homer of the season, and Orlando Hudson had two home runs, one from each side of the plate. James Loney drove in two runs, and Manny Ramirez doubled twice and scored twice. Mike Cameron and Bill Hall both doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run for the Brewers.

The victory ended the Dodgers' nine-game road trip, in which they went 6-3. It was also the last game before the All Star Break, which signals the end of the first half of the season.

Bullpen Collapses in Dodgers' Loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the San Diego Padres 7-4, evening the series at a game apiece. The Dodgers had the early advantage after Manny Ramirez homered in the first inning, and later scored a run in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie. However, Ronald Belisario fell apart, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk while only retiring one batter. Ramon Troncoso was the victim of poor defense in the eighth, as the Padres scored three unearned runs after the Dodgers infield committed two errors. Casey Blake had two hits and a run scored, Matt Kemp had an RBI, and both James Loney and Rafael Furcal scored a run. David Eckstein had two hits and drove in two runs for the Friars, and Everth Cabrera collected two hits, two runs scored and three RBI's.

Dodgers Get Enough to Beat A's

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-2, taking the interleague series two games to one. Oakland scored first, but Orlando Hudson drove a home run into center-field to tie the game. The Dodgers scored again in the fifth inning, but the A's came back as Rajai Davis took advantage of a fielding blunder; Rafael Furcal directed Juan Pierre to throw to second-base after a single sent Davis to third. Davis saw the throw go to second, and immediately left for home and scored. However, LA took the lead for good in the seventh. Pierre had an RBI-single, and Mark Loretta knocked in the go-ahead run. Casey Blake had two hits and helped start three double-plays. Russell Martin and James Loney both had a hit and scored a run. Ramon Troncoso recorded two outs in the ninth for his fifth save of the season. Randy Wolf allowed only one run in six innings, but did not receive a decision. Kurt Suzuki had an RBI-double for the A's, and Matt Holliday also doubled but did not come around to score.

Jonathan Broxton was unavailable for the game due to a sore big right toe.

The win gave manager Joe Torre his 2,195th career managerial victory, putting him fifth on the all-time list. He passed Sparky Anderson after tying him on Tuesday.

Dodgers Slip Past Cubs

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 2-1, their fourth win in a row. The Dodgers scored two early runs and Randy Wolf cruised through seven-plus innings to get his third win of the season. Ramon Troncoso pitched two shaky-but-scoreless innings for his second save of the season. Rafael Furcal had an RBI-single in the first inning, and Casey Blake drove in the winning run in the third inning on a groundout. Juan Pierre had two hits and scored a run, and James Loney also had two hits. Andre Ethier had a double, and the Dodgers contained Chicago with four double-plays. Bobby Scales had a solo-homer for the Cubs' only run, and Derrek Lee had two singles.

Will Ohman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder pain. Catcher A.J. Ellis was called up to take his place, allowing Brad Ausmus to be used as a pinch-hitter more.

Dodgers Can't Endure Angel Slugfest

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 10-7, losing the 3-game series two games to one. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 4-0 victory after Jamie Hoffmann hit his first career home run, a three-run jack. However, Chad Billingsley was less than stellar, giving up five runs, four earned, in six innings to get only his second loss of the season. The bullpen could not keep the game close, as Corey Wade, Brent Leach, and Ramon Troncoso combined to give up five runs on seven hits. Hoffmann added a double and finished with four RBI's, and Orlando Hudson scored twice. Casey Blake had three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, and James Loney drove in two runs. Matt Kemp had two hits and scored a run. Torii Hunter had two hits and 3 RBI's for the Angels, and Bobby Abreu added a triple and two runs scored. Juan Rivera singled three times, drove in two runs, and scored once.

Dodgers Pull One Out in Matinee

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in 10 innings, taking the series 2-1. The Dodgers had a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but Jonathan Broxton gave up a game-tying double to Carlos Ruiz with two outs. However, Andre Ethier walked with two out in the top of the tenth, and Russell Martin doubled, James Loney walked, and Matt Kemp doubled to put LA up by two. Chad Billingsley was sharp despite not getting the win, allowing only one run on three hits and nine strikeouts. Ramon Troncoso had his second save of the season. Martin finished with three hits, Kemp had a triple and finished just a homer short of the cycle, and Loney had his second home run in as many days. Xavier Paul doubled, the first extra-base hit of his career, and Casey Blake added a single, double, RBI, and run scored. Raul Ibanez had two hits and scored a run for the Phillies, and Jimmy Rollins had a double.

The Dodgers optioned James McDonald to the minors, and called up veteran Eric Milton to replace him. Milton will start Saturday against the Marlins instead of Jeff Weaver. McDonald struggled in his rookie season, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA.

Bullpen Crumlbes in First W/O Manny

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Washington Nationals 11-9, their first loss at home. The loss came just hours after Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance. The Dodgers broke out of the gate early, scoring six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam from Matt Kemp. Randy Wolf was solid, allowing only a run in six innings of work. However, the bullpen could not hold the lead, as Ramon Troncoso, Corey Wade, Will Ohman, Brent Leach, Guillermo Mota, and James McDonald combined to give up 10 runs, 13 hits, and two walks in just three innings of work. LA tried to come from behind in the ninth, scoring two runs, but ultimately fell short. Casey Blake came up a homer short of a cycle, and Kemp finished with five RBI's. James Loney and Russell Martin both had two hits, scored twice, and one RBI. Adam Dunn had a double and three runs batted in for the Nats, and Anderson Hernandez scored three times. Nick Johnson three hits, three RBI's, and two runs scored.

Troncoso Helps Dodgers Slip Past Rox

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-5, their fifth straight win over the Rox. James McDonald gave up five runs in five innings of work, but because the Dodgers scored six runs and he left with the lead intact, he got the first win of his career. Ramon Troncoso pitched four scoreless innings of relief, getting the first save of his career. The Dodgers scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, despite the Rockies cutting the lead to one run twice. Russell Martin had a single, a double, and four RBI's, and James Loney got on base four times, twice by hit and twice by walk. Orlando Hudson had a double, and Andre Ethier scored twice. Garrett Atkins hit a two-run homer for Colorado, and Brad Hawpe had two hits and two RBI's.

Roster Moves: DeWitt Stays, Lindblom Goes

The Dodgers made more roster moves in preparation for the season opener. They sent Josh Lindblom, Brian Mazone, Juan Castro, Erick Threets and Luis Maza to the minors, specifically sending Lindblom to Double-A to be a starter. Blake DeWitt made the major-league roster, as well as Will Ohman, Ronald Belisario, and Ramon Troncoso. Doug Mientkiewicz is expected to make the roster tomorrow, but first the 40-man roster needs to be worked out so that he, Belisario, and Ohman can join the roster. Jason Schmidt was put on the 15-day disabled list, and Tanyon Sturtze was sent to the minors.

Dodgers' Debut Goes Smoothly

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 6-2 in an exhibition, their first game of the year at Dodger Stadium. Casey Blake had a two-run homer, and Andre Etheir had a solo shot and a triple. Manny Ramirez walked twice, singled, had an RBI and scored a run. James Loney had three hits, including a double, and Matt Kemp and Rafael Furcal both doubled. Randy Wolf pitched three innings, giving up only a run, and Will Ohman, Corey Wade, Guillermo Mota, Ronald Belisario, and Ramon Troncoso combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief.

Dodgers News: No A for Effort for Kershaw, Progress with Ohman, and Weaver Gets More Innnings

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Oakland Athletics 9-5, their 18th loss of the spring. Clayton Kershaw got roughed up for seven runs, six earned, in four innings, and Ramon Troncoso gave up two runs on four hits in one inning. Guillermo Mota pitched a perfect inning, and Jonathan Broxton had a scoreless outing. Andre Ethier had a double, RBI, and run scored, and Manny Ramirez had a hit, walk, and run scored. Matt Kemp had a two-run double, and Rafael Furcal doubled as well.

Jeff Weaver pitched in a minor-league game instead his scheduled appearance against Oakland. Weaver is going to be used as a long-reliever and needs to stretch out the number of innings he pitches.

The Dodgers are expecting progress in negotiations with free-agent LHP Will Ohman, so much so that he could be ready to pitch by Opening Day. Ohman tried out for the Dodgers in a simulated game yesterday.

James McDonald is the favorite to become the club's fifth starter. McDonald has a spring ERA of 4.70, giving up 8 runs in 15 innings.

Jason Schmidt, Delwyn Young, and Claudio Vargas all will start the season on the Disabled List.

This was the last game the Dodgers will play at their new Spring Training complex, Camelback Ranch.

Dodgers News: Schmidt Toils, Ohman Tries Out, and Billingsley Nears Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the San Diego Padres 7-3, their 17th loss of the spring. Matt Kemp hit a two-run home run and singled twice, providing most of the Dodger offense. Manny Ramirez had a double and a walk, and Russell Martin singled and scored a run. Jason Schmidt pitched a solid first inning, then the wheels fell off as he gave up three runs without getting past the fourth. Hong-Chih Kuo became a victim of the wind, giving up a run in one inning. Corey Wade had a perfect inning, and Josh Lindblom increased his bid for the opening-day roster, pitching two hitless innings. Ramon Troncoso pitched a perfect ninth.

The Dodgers gave LHP Will Ohman a try-out today. Ohman pitched in a simulated minor-league game. The Dodgers are searching for a left-handed pitcher to put in the bullpen, and Ohman is searching for a job. Erik Threets and Brian Mazone, both with the team, are the current candidates to fill the void left by Joe Beimal.

Chad Billingsley is ready to make his scheduled regular-season start as he rehabs a strained right-groin. Billingsley pitched in a simulated game and experienced no problems. Billingsley will pitch Friday in an exhibition against Milwaukee at Dodger Stadium.

Mark Loretta continues to recover from his own right-groin strain. Loretta is optimistic that he can enter a game by Wednesday or Thursday, possibly in a minor-league game.

Claudio Vargas is recovering his sore right-elbow. The soreness is caused by inflammation as he has learned, and there is no ligament damage. Vargas can begin throwing by next week.

Dodgers News: Manny's Back, Billingsley's Hurt, and Estes Makes Decision

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 10-4, their 12th loss of the spring. Chad Billingsley was roughed up in his two innings of work, giving up four runs on 4 hits and three walks. Jeff Weaver also struggled, giving up two runs in two innings, including a home run. Scott Elbert pitched a scoreless inning, and Ramon Troncoso was touched for two runs. Of the nine Dodger hits, none were for extra bases. Matt Kemp had two RBI's, and Russell Martin and Andre Ethier both had two hits and a run scored.

Manny Ramirez made his return to the lineup after suffering a left-hamstring injury. Manny played in the DH position, and struck out twice in three at-bats.

Chad Billingsley left the game after he began to feel a mild right groin strain. Billingsley left after pitching two innings, but is not too concerned with the injury.

Mark Loretta also suffered a strained groin three innings after Billingsley suffered his. Loretta is set to make the roster as the team's primary pinch-hitter.

Blake DeWitt joins Billingsley and Loretta as slightly injured. DeWitt took a knee in the right quad muscle after trying to take out Chone Figgins before he could get a clean throw.

Luis Maza returned to the Dodgers' lineup after spending the last few weeks with Team Venezuela in the WBC. Maza had a hit in two at-bats.

Shawn Estes has elected to enter the Dodgers' minor-league camp, where he will pitch as a reliever. Estes has only pitched in relief twice in his career, but sees a golden opportunity to join the club by changing his role. The Dodgers are struggling to find a left-handed pitcher to join the fragile Hong-Chih Kuo in the bullpen. Estes is expected to pitch with the minor-league camp for a few days, then return to the big-league club for the last week of Spring Training.

Dodgers News: Happy Birthday, So Long Yhency, and New Promotion

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-2, snapping a four-game losing streak. Clayton Kershaw, who turned 21 today, pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just a walk and a double while striking out three. He also hit a solo-homer in the third inning. Russell Martin had a double, run, and RBI, and Andre Ethier had two hits. Eric Stults ran into trouble in his first game of the spring, giving up two runs in less than two innings. Jeff Weaver and Ramon Troncoso both pitched scoreless innings.

Josh Lindblom was promoted from minor-league camp to the majors. Lindblom was a second-round pick last year and made one relief appearance this spring, pitching two scoreless innings against Oakland.

The Dodgers released Yhency Brazoban today. Brazoban was an acquisition from the Yankees and became the team closer in 2005 after Eric Gagne was injured. However, he has been troubled with weight and health issues, having Tommy John surgery in 2006 and shoulder labrum surgery in 2007.

Jamie Hoffmann was sent to the minors so he can get more playing time. Hoffmann went four-for-six in Spring Training with three doubles, five RBI's, and three runs scored.

Dodgers News: Split Squad, Schmidt is Out, and Manny Will Sit

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Oakland Athletics 10-8, their 8th loss of the spring. Oakland scored 9 runs in the third inning off three different pitchers. Jason Schmidt pitched two scoreless innings, giving up only a hit and two walks and striking out two. Jeff Weaver surrendered four runs, and Shawn Estes gave up two. Matt Kemp had a double and RBI, and Brad Ausmus had two hits. Juan Castro had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

The Dodgers lost to the Seattle Mariners 4-3 in 10 innings, and lost both split-squad games. Mitch Jones had his fourth homer of the spring, and Orlando Hudson had two hits, including a double. Blake DeWitt had three hits, and Xavier Paul had two hits and a run scored. Hiroki Kuroda had a shaky outing, giving up two runs, one earned, in three innings on seven hits. Guillermo Mota, Corey Wade, and Ramon Troncoso each had a scoreless inning of work.

Jason Schmidt is out of the running for the fifth-starter spot, according to manager Joe Torre. Schmidt is unable to be ready to pitch on a normal 5-day rotation, suffering from severe fatigue after most of his outings.

Manny Ramirez will miss the rest of the week as he tries to heal his left hamstring. He aggravated his hamstring in yesterday's game as he ran to flag a double. Ramirez believes the injury was created from his extra workouts and exercises as he tried to make up for lost time.

Don Mattingly managed the Dodgers against Seattle as Joe Torre was the manager in the contest with Oakland. Mattingly is the hitting coach, and was a potential candidate to replace Torre as manager of the New York Yankees, where he spent his entire career. However, he lost the job to Joe Girardi. Mattingly is seen as the heir-apparent to Torre after the two remaining years on his contract are finished. His son, Preston Mattingly, plays in the Dodgers organization, and is a non-roster invitee to Spring Training.

Dodgers News: Homers Abound, Levine Takes a Whack, and Manny Gets Ready for Left

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3, their ninth win of the spring. Russell Martin had a home run, 2 runs scored, and two RBI's, and Juan Pierre had two hits, including double, two stolen bases, and scored a run. Delwyn Young had a solo home run, and Valentino Pascucci had a two-run blast. Mark Loretta had a double. Clayton Kershaw had a decent outing, giving up two runs in 3-and-two-thirds innings and striking out five. Ramon Troncoso had perfect one-and-one-third innings.

Ken Levine called the game on the Dodgers' radio network. Levine is one of six candidates competing for the TV play-by-play job on games outside the NL West. The hole was created after the Dodgers announced Charlie Steiner would only broadcast on the radio. Steiner previously did play-by-play for Vin Scully, who can not call games east of the Rocky Mountains. The list of candidates can be seen here.

Eric Threets left the game after pitching just one-third of an inning. Threets suffered an injury to his left shouler. Doug Mientkiewicz left the game after straining a quad muscle.

Joe Beimal is expected to sign with a team soon, according to ESPN. Aside from the Dodgers, Beimal has gotten interest from Colorado, San Diego, and Oakland. Beimal pitched the last three seasons in LA, and had an ERA of 2.02 with a 5-1 record last season.

The Brewers were asked to use the DH in today's game so Manny Ramirez could get at-bats. However, Milwaukee denied their requests, and the pitcher-hitter rule was used. Manny is instead penciled in for tomorrow's game against Colorado as the left-fielder.

Dodgers News: Walk-off Win, Manny Comes to Camelback, and Pierre Wants a Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-4, their first win at Camelback Ranch. Jason Repko hit a game-winning RBI single in the ninth, just after Xavier Paul had a game-tying RBI. Paul hit a home run earlier in the game, and Doug Mientkiewicz hit a 2-run homer. Hiroki Kuroda pitched three scoreless innings, only giving up one hit, and Ramon Troncoso had a perfect inning. Eric Milton and Claudio Vargas hit setbacks, combining to give up all of the White Sox runs of the day.

Orlando Hudson returned to the lineup after experiencing soreness in his left wrist. Andre Ethier played in right field after spending the last two days in the DH position.

Manny Ramirez arrived in Glendale, Arizona to join the Dodgers' Spring Training. He held a press conference in which he estimates it will take a week for him to play in Spring Training games. Manny stated he was happy to be with LA, that he was unhappy in Boston, and will fully commit to the team, despite not receiving the 4-year, $100 million contract he wanted at the beginning of free-agency.

Juan Pierre has requested a trade from the Dodgers after the signing of Manny Ramirez. Pierre's speed makes him a good fourth-outfielder and pinch-hitter. However, Pierre wishes to play full-time, and would like to go to another team where he can play everyday.

More WBC Exhibitions: Jonathan Broxton got the save in Team USA's 9-6 win over Philadelphia. He pitched a perfect 9th inning with one strikeout. Russell Martin had a hit and a run in Team Canada's 6-0 win over the New York Yankees. Valentino Pascucci had a hit and three strikeouts in Team Italy's loss to the New York Mets. Luis Maza walked in his only plate appearance in Team Venezuela's 8-4 loss to Atlanta. Kenley Jansen went hitless in two at-bats in Team Netherlands' 4-2 loss to Minnesota.

Dodgers News: Home Opener, No News Still, and Pitchers Make Progress

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell in their first game at their new Spring Training home, Camelback Ranch, to the stadium's co-occupants, the Chicago White Sox. The Dodgers held a 2-run lead going into the ninth inning before surrendering 3 runs to the Sox. Mark Loretta and Blake DeWitt each had an RBI, and Matt Kemp scored a run and hit a double. Hiroki Kuroda pitched two scoreless innings, only giving up a hit, and Claudio Vargas and Eric Milton both made their cases to be the fifth starter, both pitching two scoreless innings and allowing two baserunners.

Frank McCourt has said negotiations with Manny Ramirez have paused for now, but will likely resume in some time. Scott Boras and GM Ned Colletti have still spoken over the phone, but no real progress has been made. News came that McCourt pulled the Dodgers' offer of 2 years, $45 million deferred.

Eric Milton pitched for the first time since 2007 after suffering an elbow injury, and retired 6 of the 8 batters he faced, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. Claudio Vargas also threw two scoreless innings, but allowed two hits. Guillermo Mota had a perfect inning. All three pitchers and Hiroki Kuroda are capable of making the club in April.

Ramon Troncoso left the game after pitching 2/3rds of an inning for reasons unknown.

Tomorrow will be an off-day, with the club playing a 7-inning "B" game against Milwaukee.
